Similarities?

Where is the line between homage and plageurism? When does influence become derivitive? It seems in the age of sampling, it's easier to get away with copies.
Then again Elvis, The Beatles, and even the Rolling Stones started off by releasing covers. People just want to hear something familiar these days, as it's easier to get into.
As a test of todays relaxed attitude to plageurism, I'm going to take one of my favourite riffs of all time ('The Immigrant Song' by Led Zeppelin) and turn it into 'my own' song and see if I get called on it.

  2. so, so true.
there's a difference between being inspired by something and outright copying it.
